At Mittleman Eye in West Palm Beach, our top priority is providing patients with the best options for clear vision and eye health. We offer a full range of vision correction solutions, including the revolutionary EVO ICL™ lens. If you’re looking to break free from glasses or contact lenses, EVO ICL is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive solution that can give you the freedom you’ve been seeking.

What is EVO ICL?

EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer® Lens) is a cutting-edge refractive implant designed to correct nearsightedness (myopia), with or without astigmatism. Unlike other vision correction options, EVO ICL is an “additive” technology, meaning no corneal tissue is removed during the procedure. This lens is reversible and can be removed or replaced if necessary.

Benefits of EVO ICL

  • Sharp, Clear Vision: The EVO ICL offers crisp vision for those with myopia, with or without astigmatism.
  • Quick and Minimally Invasive Procedure: The surgery takes only about 20 to 30 minutes and is virtually painless.
  • Fast Recovery: Most patients can return to normal activities, such as work or driving, the very next day.
  • Ideal for Thin Corneas and Severe Nearsightedness: The EVO ICL is suitable for individuals with thin corneas and can effectively treat moderate to severe nearsightedness, providing a safe and effective option where other procedures may not be viable.

EVO ICL vs. LASIK vs. PRK

When choosing the best vision correction procedure, it’s important to understand how EVO ICL, LASIK, and PRK differ in terms of procedure, recovery, and long-term outcomes.

Conditions Treated:

 EVO ICLLASIKPRK
NearsightednessModerate to SevereMild to ModerateMild to Moderate
Farsightedness  NoYesYes
AstigmatismYesYesYes
Thin CorneaYes LimitedLimited

Procedure Type:

  • EVO ICL: Involves implanting a small, biocompatible lens inside the eye, in front of the natural lens.
  • LASIK: Uses a laser to create a flap in the cornea, which is lifted to allow the cornea to be permanently reshaped with a laser.
  • PRK: Reshapes the surface of the cornea using a laser without creating a corneal flap.

Ideal Candidates:

  • EVO ICL: Ideal for patients with moderate to severe myopia, particularly those with thin corneas or dry eye conditions that make them ineligible for LASIK or PRK. It is suitable for patients who want a reversible procedure.
  • LASIK: Best for patients with low to moderate levels of myopia, hyperopia (farsightedness), or astigmatism who have a corneal thickness sufficient for the procedure.
  • PRK: Recommended for patients with thinner corneas who might not be suitable for LASIK but are still looking for a permanent solution.

Recovery Time:

  • EVO ICL: Offers a quick recovery, with most patients noticing improvements in vision within a day and returning to normal activities, like work, the next day. There are typically fewer side effects, such as dry eyes.
  • LASIK: Also has a fast recovery time, with many patients experiencing improved vision within 24 to 48 hours. However, some side effects may persist for a few weeks.
  • PRK: Involves a longer recovery period since the outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) needs time to regenerate.
