Are you tired of wearing Glasses or Contact Lenses? Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) may be the right choice for you if you are between 45 and 65 years old.

If you are between 45 and 65 years old and want to be glasses independent, Refractive Lens Exchange is the right choice for you. Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) is a procedure that removes the natural lens in your eye and replaces it with advanced technology lens to correct all your vision and make you glasses independent.

A few signs that you are a candidate for RLE surgery

Are you over 45 years old and experiencing vision problems? If so, then you may be a candidate for RLE surgery, a safe vision correction procedure. RLE surgery can correct these vision problems:

  • Presence of refractive errors — Refractive errors form when light does not focus correctly on the back of your eye. You may experience problems such as blurry vision and seeing a glare around bright lights.

A few common refractive errors that RLE can correct:

Nearsightedness (Myopia) —

If you have nearsightedness, then objects in the distance appear blurry. Examples of objects that could appear blurry include a movie theater screen, highway sign, baseball scoreboard, television screen, and overhead restaurant menu.

Farsightedness (hyperopia) —

If you have farsightedness, then objects in front of you appear blurry. You might have difficulty reading a book, articles on your phone, bingo card, restaurant menu, and chess board.

  • Astigmatism — If you have astigmatism, then objects both in the distance and in front of you appear blurry. When driving, you may have difficulty reading the dashboard in front of you and the signs on the highway. Similarly, you may have difficulty reading a distant PowerPoint presentation and any notes in front of you. Astigmatism can occur if your left eye is farsighted and your right eye is nearsighted, or vice versa.
  • Presbyopia — Like farsightedness, presbyopia is when close-up objects appear blurry. However, presbyopia does not develop in people until after they turn 40 years old. If you have presbyopia, then you may need reading glasses to complete daily activities like reading an article or a restaurant menu.
  • Constant replacement of glasses and contacts — You may find that you need a stronger prescription each year when you get an eye exam. Getting new glasses often may make it difficult for you to keep track of your most recent pair, especially if you travel.

If you experience any of the signs listed above, be sure to schedule an appointment with your ophthalmologist. Your ophthalmologist can help find the vision correction option that works best for you.
